What Is A Powertrain Warranty?
All new Subaru models come with a complimentary powertrain warranty for an incredible 10 years or 150,000 miles. A powertrain warranty covers all the components that relate to moving your car, including the engine, transmission, driveshaft, axles, and differential. That means peace of mind that some of your vehicle's most important (and expensive) parts are covered for longer than most people keep their vehicles. Should you ever have an unexpected breakdown, most of the repairs are paid under the warranty.
But what does a powertrain warranty actually cover? Our team has compiled some important answers to common questions about powertrain warranties and what Subaru will cover should you need a repair on a covered component.
Any part that is related to moving your vehicle, including the following:
- Engine: engine block, pistons, cylinders, crankshaft, all internal lubricated parts, oil pump, oil pan, timing belts or gears, water pump, flywheel, intake, exhaust manifolds, oil seals, and gaskets
- Transmission: gearbox, transmission case, internal lubricated parts, torque converter, and transmission electronic control unit
- Driveshaft: drive shaft, axle shafts, CV joints, universal joints, seals, gaskets
- Axles: drive axle, bearings, gears, thrust washers, spacers, wheel bearings
- Differential: front and rear differential cases, internal parts, axle shafts, CV joints

Powertrain and drivetrain are sometimes used interchangeably, but there is a difference in the parts related to each. The powertrain involves mostly the engine or motor(s) and the drivetrain. The drivetrain refers to the transmission, driveshaft, axles, differential, and wheels. While the drivetrain is a component of the powertrain, each has a set of components all covered under Subaru's Powertrain Warranty.
